St. James Church Requirements

To be confirmed, one must:

  ·        Be a baptized person who has not been confirmed
  ·        Parish Member entering the 9th to 11th grade
  ·        Be suitably instructed
  ·        Choose a name for themselves (Saint’s name)
  ·        Choose a Sponsor (a mentor who is a confirmed member of good standing in the Catholic Church.
 

Additional Archdiocesan Guidelines

  ·        The age for Confirmation in the Archdiocese is about 16
  ·        The preparation program for the Sacrament of Confirmation should span 2 years
  ·        A suitable period of mystagogy should follow the reception of the sacrament so that the Confirmands might live more deeply the faith they profess at Confirmation

Goals and Objectives

To invite youth to enter a loyal and trusting relationship with God through personal and communal experiences.

To provide youth with factual knowledge of scripture and doctrinal statements of the Catholic faith and the opportunity to articulate their understanding of these beliefs.

To challenge youth to participate in the Church’s mission to work for peace and justice through service projects.

To bring youth to an awareness that their Christian formation is ongoing and needs to be celebrated at significant moments in their life.
